When created and/or kept by the school, photos of specific students are considered part of the students' education records and, therefore, are subject to FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act).

According to FERPA guidelines and Pickens County Board of Education Policy, you have the right to refuse to allow the inclusion of any or all photos of your child on the JMS website and other school-related sites. No Child Left Behind (NCLB) - Requirements and Policies

In compliance with the requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (Public Law 107-110), commonly known as NCLB, the Pickens County School System informs parents that you may request information about the professional qualifications of your student's teachers.  The Act was passed in the House of Representatives on May 23, 2001, Senate on June 14, 2001 and signed into law on January 8, 2002. The following information is governed under this act and may be freely requested:

1) Whether the teacher has met the Georgia Professional Standards Commission requirements for certification for the grade level and subject areas in which the teacher provides instruction.

2) Whether the teacher is teaching under an emergency other or provisional status through which Georgia teacher qualifications or certification criteria have been waived.

3) The college or university major and any graduate certification or degree held by the teacher.

4) Whether the student is provided services by paraprofessionals, and if so, their qualifications.
